The Kanaga-gumi is the newest of the yakuza organizations, and is built upon the bones of the Shigeda-gumi. The former oyabun of the Shigeda-gumi was Takeo Shigeda, and he was assassinated – rumors say it was an inside job by one of his bodyguards. After the assassination, Sato Kanaga was made chairman of the organization and it was renamed the Kanaga-gumi.
Because Kanaga is so conservative, many of the metahuman and foreign members of the gumi were cast out and sent to join the Kenran-kai or simply killed. This event was called “the Little Schism” after the event that ousted the Koreans from the yakuza ranks.
